IBM released the world’s first 2nm process chip, and the giant is still the same
Recently, IBM released the world’s first 2nm process chip! According to the introduction of IBM, the first 2nm process chip was etched on a fingernail sized chip with an EUV lithography machine, integrating 50 billion crystal circles, with the smallest unit smaller than the single strand of human DNA.
According to public data, as early as 2014, although IBM sold its Microelectronics division to GlobalFoundries, it announced its withdrawal from the circuit of chip manufacturing. But in fact, Blue Giant has not abandoned the research and development of advanced chip manufacturing process chips. Through cooperation with enterprises such as AMD, Samsung and GlobalFoundries, IBM has taken the lead in launching test chips at multiple process nodes.
It is reported that with the help of 2nm technology, IBM successfully accommodated 50 billion crystal circles on a chip the size of a nail. On average, the smallest unit of this chip is even smaller than the single strand of human DNA.
Compared with the 7nm process, the performance of the 2nm chip has been improved by 45%, and the energy consumption has been reduced by 75%. In the future, the 2nm chip will be used for mobile phones, and the battery life will be increased by four times. Moreover, the manufacturing process of 2nm is less than that of 7nm, which means that the cost is less than that of 7nm, which is undoubtedly good news for major manufacturers and consumers.
Smart bud experts said that up to the latest, IBM and its affiliates have more than 30000 patent applications in 126 countries/regions. It is noteworthy that in IBM’s patent industry benchmark comparison, the average value of the company’s patents in the above fields is higher than the industry average value. Moreover, the value of the above patented technology fields of the company is not in the low value patent range, which also means that the company’s patent value content is relatively high.
The patents with higher market value of the company are the patents with publication numbers of RU2664413C2, RU2565496C2, RU2568241C2, RU2568920C2, US10621007B2, RU2613726C2, US11055270B2, RU2327204C2, etc. In addition, most of the company’s patented technologies are related to program control devices and digital outputs.
(Note: The data included in Smart Bud’s global patent database include patents that have been published in 126 countries/regions. Generally speaking, it takes 4 to 18 months for patents to be queried from application to publication)
