Mobile phone LCD screen and OLED screen, and their advantages and disadvantages
LCD full name: Liquid Crystal screen Liquid crystal. LCD requires a backlit LED to display. The principle is based on white light passing through a color filter to produce a different color. An electric current controls the overlight rate of each pixel, thus controlling the color of the pixel. LCD after many years of development, the technology has been relatively mature.
OLED, known technically as an Organic light-emitting Diode, is an organic self-emitting material that emits Light on its own, without the need for a separate backlight or color filter. Each OLED pixel can be assigned three colors: red, green, and blue. Some manufacturers now add yellow, but the principle is similar.
LCD advantages:
1. Cost: Compared with OLED, LCD has lower production difficulty and cost, so the price of LCD is much cheaper than OLED.
2. No stroboscope. Since the backlight of LCD is an independent white LED backlight panel, no stroboscope can be basically achieved.
3. Basically don’t worry about service life.
4. High pixel density, the same resolution, the display effect will be clearer than the OLED display.
LCD disadvantages:
1. Thickness: LCD cannot be thin compared with OLED.
2. Contrast ratio: OLED can display full black because the pixels light themselves, while LCD requires backlit LED, so the contrast ratio is lower than OLED.
3. Power consumption: Because it cannot emit light, it consumes more power than OLED.
4. Under-screen fingerprint is not allowed.
OLED advantage
Color: Contrast ratio refers to the ratio of white to black. The higher the contrast ratio, the stronger the color of the picture will be. LCD has a backlight layer, so the black display is not pure black, while OLED black does not emit light.
Thickness: LCD is definitely much thicker than OLED due to the existence of a backlight layer and liquid crystal layer. The OLED screen is very easy to make the phone or display thin, which is a great improvement for the phone. A thinner screen allows more components to be added to improve the experience of other places.
Curvature: Still because of the existence of a liquid crystal layer and backlight layer, LCD screen is impossible to bend greatly, while OLED is very flexible. The curved screen is supported by OLED technology. The material of curved screens on the market is OLED.
Power consumption: OLED saves power because the pixels work independently.
Individually lit: LCD on means the entire backlight layer is turned on, so LCD is either fully on or fully off, while OLED each pixel is independent, so OLED can light some pixels individually, so it can achieve the display of the screen, which can greatly reduce the number of times the screen is lit.
Response time: The color of the picture is displayed by pixels, and it takes time to change the color of pixels. This time is called gray response time. If the gray response time is too long, there will be a drag.
OLED disadvantage
Ststrobe, LCD can directly control the brightness by adjusting the voltage of the backlight layer, while OLED will appear uneven jelly effect under low voltage, so OLED can not adopt the control voltage to adjust the brightness, but constantly switch on and off, switch frequency to a certain degree can not be seen by the naked eye. But the stroboscopic frequency is too low at low brightness. If your eyes use the mobile phone at a low stroboscopic level for a long time, it is easy for your eyes to feel uncomfortable and tired.
So when choosing an OLED screen, it’s best to make sure you’re comfortable with low brightness stroboscopic.
Burning screen: The organic material life of OLED is not as good as that of LCD, because each pixel of OLED is self-luminous, it will lead to different working time of each pixel of OLED. Some pixels display green for a long time, its green attenuation will be more than other pixels, and the green display will be more and more pale in the future, so OLED is easy to burn the screen.
Low pixel density: If the screen area remains the same, the more pixels, the clearer the screen will be. However, the arrangement of pixels on the OLED screen will cause the resolution of the two phones to be the same, but the resolution of the screen will be worse, so if the screen is the same 1080P, the resolution of the OLED will be worse than that of the LCD.
