China’s chip patent is twice that of the United States, and the United States chip can’t stand it, so it has no choice but to change hands
The United States forced Japanese and Dutch companies to join in the way of a stick and carrot, trying to further limit the development of Chinese chips. However, recently foreign analysts pointed out that China’s chip patent applications were far ahead, and the United States’ patent applications were far behind.

According to the data released by the analysis agency, the number of chip patent applications in the world reached 69000 in 2022, a record high. The number of chip patent applications in China reached 38000, accounting for 55%, which is far ahead. The number of patent applications in the United States was 18000, accounting for 26%, which is significantly behind China.
China’s chip patents are far ahead of the United States, more than twice that of the United States. The former chip leader, the United States, has gradually lagged behind in chip technology research and development. It is not surprising that the United States has no choice but to use other non-market means when its own chip technology research and development is lagging behind.
While the United States is still trying to limit the development of Chinese chips by other means, the American chip industry has been unable to resist. Qualcomm, NVIDIA, Synopsis and others have successively customized chips for the Chinese market. Intel also hopes that China can increase its chip procurement volume in the second half of this year to help it improve its performance, which is quite different from the practice of the United States.
The reason for American chip companies to do so is that since 2022, the global chip supply has been oversupplied, American chips have suffered a major blow, and the performance has declined. Intel has suffered losses for two consecutive quarters, and Micron has also suffered its first loss. The Chinese market is the largest chip purchasing country in the world. These American chip companies hope that China can increase the chip purchasing volume and improve the performance of American chips.

In fact, in the past 10 years, China’s chip industry has grown rapidly. Since the establishment of the integrated circuit industry fund in 2014, China’s chip industry has entered a stage of rapid development. Since then, China’s chip industry has sprung up like bamboo shoots, with more than 20000 chip enterprises emerging.
In 2019, the United States brazenly attacked a Chinese technology enterprise, which made Chinese enterprises fully aware of the unreliability of American chips. Chinese enterprises further strengthened their support for domestic chips, and the research and development of Chinese chip technology was accelerated. In just a few years, Chinese chips have broken the gap of memory chips, radio frequency chips, GPU chips, and so on. China’s chip technology has developed so rapidly, and chip patents have naturally grown rapidly.
With the joint efforts of all parties in China, China’s chip self-sufficiency rate has risen rapidly, and China’s chip self-sufficiency rate has reached about 30%. With the rapid increase of China’s chip self-sufficiency rate, China’s chip imports have declined steadily. In 2022, China’s chip imports have decreased by 97 billion, which makes the United States chip panic.
The United States is the largest chip exporter in the world, accounting for nearly 50% of the global chip market. As China continues to reduce its chip purchases, American chips are facing the problem of difficulty in selling. This has led to the above phenomenon. The United States is not allowed to sell American chips to China, while American chips are actively looking for ways to sell chips to China in order to survive.
Another reason why American chips are actively selling chips to China is that they worry that Chinese chips monopolize the huge domestic market and gain more income, thus speeding up the research and development of chip technology and shortening the technology gap with American chips. NVIDIA is concerned that China’s new GPU chip companies have developed A800 chips for the Chinese market because of such development, so foreign media commented that American chips have turned.

From the perspective of patents, it can be seen that the innovation ability of American chips has been greatly weakened, while Chinese chips have been stimulated with great potential, and have gradually overtaken the United States in technology research and development. It can be believed that Chinese chips will catch up with American chips in more industries as long as time is given. At that time, I’m afraid no one will buy American chips.
