As a result of suppressing Huawei, Qualcomm released the world’s most advanced 5.5G chip, and the US technology has surpassed
Qualcomm officially released the world’s most advanced 5.5G baseband chip X75, achieving a data transmission rate of 10Gbps. This is the first baseband chip in the world to reach a speed of 10Gbps. It can be seen that after the United States suppressed Huawei, American chip companies have once again gained technological leadership.
The X75 baseband chip released by Qualcomm has many technical advantages. It can support 10 carrier aggregation and millimeter wave technology. The delay has indeed reached the millisecond level, enabling data transmission rates of 10Gbps downlink and 1Gbps uplink, making it the fastest chip in the world.
The development goal of 5G is to target many emerging technologies, such as the Internet of Vehicles, the Internet of Things, and XR. Due to the massive amount of data that these emerging technologies need to transmit, the Qualcomm X75 baseband chip, which can provide a large amount of data transmission capability, shows its importance and can turn the massive data transmission required by these emerging technologies into a reality.
Qualcomm won the first place in 5.5G chips again due to pressure from Huawei, China’s most advanced technology company. In 2019, Huawei released the world’s first 5G mobile phone SOC chip for commercial use, supporting a data transmission rate of 2.3 Gbps. However, the Snapdragon 865 released by Qualcomm at the time required an external 5G baseband chip, resulting in high power consumption.
In 2020, under pressure from the United States, chip factories such as TSMC could no longer produce chips for Huawei, and Huawei’s 5G chips were discontinued. So far, no chip factory has been found to produce chips. The global 5G chip has been iterated for at least three generations. Now Qualcomm has finally regained first place with a 5.5G chip of up to 10Gbps,
5G technology has become the focus of technological competition between China and the United States. After gaining the leading edge in 5G technology, China has been promoting the commercialization of 5G in recent years. Currently, China has 2.4 million 5G base stations, accounting for nearly 60% of the total number of global 5G base stations, and has built the world’s most complete 5G network.
Relying on the world’s most complete 5G network, China has developed the world’s largest 5G users. The number of 5G package users in China has reached over 1 billion, and the number of 5G network users has also reached nearly 500 million. However, 5G is ultimately aimed at emerging technologies such as autonomous driving, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence. Its more important indicators are ultra-high data transmission rate, ultra-large capacity, and ultra-low latency.
Initially, relying on Huawei’s years of accumulation in 5G technology and its leading edge in 5G chip technology, it was most likely to take the lead in launching 5.5G chips. Previously, it was also the first to release 5.5 technology. However, all this was due to Huawei’s failure to release a 5.5G chip due to pressure from the United States, which defeated Qualcomm.
It is reported that Qualcomm’s X75 baseband chip will be produced by TSMC with a 3nm process in the second half of this year. This will also be the second chip produced using the 3nm process after Apple’s A17 processor. More advanced technology will help reduce power consumption and affect the performance of roaming chips. It can be said that the United States has achieved a counter advantage in 5.5G technology this time.
But the United States should not be too happy. Huawei said its chip technology development is still ongoing. It is actively promoting many initiatives in the hope of resolving the issue of chip mass production as soon as possible. It is believed that once the chip production issues are resolved, Huawei will regain the advantages of 5.5G chip technology. After all, its 5G technology accumulation is deeper, and it has more 5G patents.
